1. Introduction

ReceiptSplit ("we", "our", or "the app") is a receipt scanning and expense splitting application developed by Adam Drojewski "DEVCOD" based in Poland. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information.

By using ReceiptSplit, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Data We Collect

ReceiptSplit collects and processes the following types of data:

2.1 Receipt Data

Receipt images - Photos you take or import of receipts
Receipt text - Text extracted from receipt images via OCR
Items and prices - Individual line items parsed from receipts
Receipt metadata - Date, merchant name, totals

2.2 Participant Information

Names - Names of people sharing expenses
Contact information - Email addresses and phone numbers (optional, user-entered)
Split assignments - Which items are assigned to which participants

2.3 Payment Information

Payment handles - Your Venmo, PayPal, or Cash App usernames (optional)
Payment records - Records of payments made between participants

2.4 Device Information

Device name - Used to create default participant name
Locale settings - Used for currency and language defaults

4. Third-Party Services

ReceiptSplit uses the following third-party services:

4.1 OpenAI (ChatGPT)

What: Receipt text is sent to OpenAI's ChatGPT API for intelligent parsing into structured data (items, prices, quantities).

Data sent: Only the text extracted from receipts - no images, no personal information.

Security: All requests go through our secure Cloudflare proxy. No direct connection to OpenAI from your device.

4.2 Cloudflare

We use Cloudflare Workers as a secure proxy for API calls. Cloudflare may process request metadata (IP addresses, timestamps) according to their privacy policy.

4.3 Apple (iCloud/CloudKit)

Pro subscribers only: If you enable iCloud sync, your data is stored in Apple's CloudKit servers. This is optional and controlled by you.

4.4 Payment Apps

ReceiptSplit can generate deep links to payment apps (Venmo, PayPal, Cash App) for convenience. We do not process any payments - you are redirected to those apps.

5. Data Storage & Security

5.1 Local Storage

By default, all your data is stored locally on your device:

Core Data - Receipts, items, participants, payments
UserDefaults - App preferences and settings
Keychain - Sensitive credentials (app authentication)
File system - Receipt images (compressed JPEG)

5.2 Cloud Storage (Pro Feature)

Pro subscribers can optionally enable iCloud sync. When enabled, your data is synced via Apple's CloudKit, subject to Apple's privacy practices.

5.3 Security Measures

All network requests use HTTPS encryption
Sensitive credentials stored in iOS Keychain
No API keys stored on device
Receipt images compressed to reduce storage

6. Analytics & Crash Reporting

We do not use any third-party analytics services.

Crash reports are handled exclusively through Apple's App Store Connect, which you can opt out of in your iOS Settings.

7. Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are in the European Union, you have the following rights:

Access - Request a copy of your data
Rectification - Correct inaccurate data
Erasure - Delete your data ("right to be forgotten")
Portability - Export your data in a portable format
Objection - Object to certain processing

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control. You can view, edit, and delete all data directly within the app. To completely remove all data, simply delete the app from your device.

8. Data Retention

Your data is retained until you delete it. ReceiptSplit does not automatically delete any of your data. When you delete a receipt or participant in the app, it is permanently removed from local storage.

If you uninstall the app, all locally stored data is deleted. If you use iCloud sync, data remains in iCloud until you delete it from there.

9. Children's Privacy

ReceiptSplit is not intended for use by children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

10. International Data Transfers

When receipt text is processed by OpenAI (via our Cloudflare proxy), data may be transferred to servers located outside the European Economic Area. These transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards including standard contractual clauses.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:

Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
For significant changes, displaying a notice in the app

We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
